Question about the Flu Remedies

by Chrissy

Hey, Grandma! I have two little girls - one almost 2 years old and the other 2 months old. In our area where we live, there has been a whole lot of nasty stuff going around, namely RSV and Influenza. What can I do to best keep them healthy and prevent these infections? And if they do come down with something (although I doubt our baby will since she is nursing) then what can I do? I read on your site how people used to take whiskey to fight the flu...but what about toddlers?! :)

Thanks and God Bless,
Chrissy

Flu Remedies
by: Grandma

Hello Chrissy,

I hope you enjoyed your holidays with you little ones. I'm just getting back from my holiday vacation.

Like all mothers we'd love to be able to wrap our children in bubble wrap when nasty things like the flu is going around but we all know it's impossible to protect them as much as we'd love to. Like you said, your little one should be fine since you are nursing and passing on your immunities and if you did the same with your oldest daughter she should still be carrying many of the immunities you passed on to her. But,sadly, sooner or later we all end up with some of the bugs going around. That's what builds our immunities as we age. If she does come down with that bad cough and cold just give her the hot toddy recipe without the alcohol. She's much too young to be sipping on the rum, unless the cough is so severe that a drop or two might help her rest. Just make sure you give her lots of fruits and vegetables, especially the fruits loaded with vitamin C. Keep your home moist with a good vaporizer or humidifier. Keep them warm and give them lots of hugs. That's about all a mom can do.
