My Mom's Constipation Remedy

by Brenda

For constipated babies...a small slither of soap about the circumference of a pencil inserted into baby's bottom and held there for about a minute (soap suppository). Baby doesn't like it but within moments baby will fill his diaper and feel much better!

I used this on my own children.

Baby severe constipation

My 17 month old grandson had not gone in 4 days. His stomach was has as rock. I tried prune juice, pineapple juice, no dairy, broccoli, prunes and every other remedy. This morning I gave him a sliver of ivory soap as a suppository and within one hour he had a huge bowel movement. Great suggestion! We both thank you!

So long as you use ivory or glycerine soap, it's harmless. I use it if mine hasn't done a dooey for a few days.

Soap & Constipation
by: Grandma

Hi Brenda,

Wow, now that's a really old home remedy. I can remember that was my mother's remedy for constipation. In fact when I was a young mother and my first son was born my mother used that remedy on him when he was constipated. I completely forgot about that until I read your submission. Thank you so much for reminding me about this and I'm sure there are young mothers that will really appreciate you taking the time to write to us about it. You're right, it really does work!
