My daughter has been constipated for 4 years
by: Anonymous

Have you found any remedies that work? My daughter has been constipated from age 2 to now 6 years old and has been on Mirilax and Lactalos and as soon as I take her off, it comes back. Just wondering if you found out how to fix it.

Constipation & Dairy Allergy
by: Grandma

Thank you for bringing that point up. Dairy allergy can cause severe constipation in very young children. One of my son's suffered from the opposite severe diarrhea when he was less than 6 weeks old. The Dr. put him on flat 7-up and mashed bananas for months.

Dairy allergy is really hard to diagnose but signs like diarrhea and constipation are sure signs and worth taking the child off of dairy to see if the condition improves.

I wrote a page about Dairy Allergy if you look under "Allergy Wisdom". There are so many health problems connected with dairy.

Re: constipated son

My son was severely constipated at 2 1/2. The pediatrician, gastro dr. and allergist couldn't find the cause and put him on miralax. In conversation with my lactation nurse upon the birth of my 3rd child, milk allergy came up. I decided it couldn't hurt to take him off dairy for 2 weeks, even though the allergy dr. said no way does dairy allergy cause constipation, and in fact, his skin tests were negative! After he was off dairy products(careful, it's hidden in a lot of packaged foods), his symptoms, including constipation, were much, much better. I have since learned that constipation is sometimes a symptom of a food allergy/sensitivity.
Good Luck!

Natural Constipation Relief
by: Grandma

Hello Kodie,

Wow, I totally agree with you, it's so sad! That poor little guy.

I'm wondering if you found my page on Home Remedy for Constipation. That power pudding I wrote about is really good. There is only three ingredients that you can buy at any supermarket and it's totally natural, so there is nothing at all that can upset his little tummy and he'll actually start having natural healthy bowl movements.

All you need is to blend 1 cup of applesauce, 3/4 cup of prune juice and 1 cup of natural wheat bran. Mix this all together to form a pudding and store it in a covered bowl in the refriderator. The first dose I'd give him a heaping tablespoon followed by a glass (8 oz.) water. Then give him a heaping teaspoon every morning followed by a glass of water. That's it, it's that simple and you'll be amazed at how quickly it works and how well it works.

This recipe has been given to people in nursing homes that are on all kinds of medications that is costipating them and it still works great.

I know I wouldn't feel guilty at all giving this to any of my kids or grandkids, in fact I have many times and it's always worked!

Thank you for trusting in Grandma's Wisdom,

Grandma
