IBS constipation

Hello Grandma and Grandpa,

Beccie here. I hope you had a great holiday with family and friends. We had Elaine's 2 sisters and her great neice down from CONN. We enjoyed having them.

I wanted to ask you something a little hard for me to talk about. I was diagnosed with IBS constipation along with some other great things like fibro., chronic fatique and anxiety. I have had it for about 32 years.

I'm coming to you as I would if you were my grandmother. What I wanted to say is that I am just in the beginning a flare with the IBS. It starts out with alot of mucus with gas. (I also have gastritis) Sometimes it gets bad enough that I have to wear a diaper. My entire bowel system shuts down for no apparent reason and I can go for days without a bowel movement.

So here is the question. What do you think causes the mucus and is there anything you would suggest to make it stop and get the bowels going. Please don't say to eat alot of fiber and fruits and vegetables. You have to understand that my system shuts down and there is nothing there. Fiber is not the answer. I eat the same way that I always do and I haven't had a flare for about a year and a 1/2.

Yes we have bought a new home and moved and had construction going on for the last year and just had company. But, why now,?

Grandma, I need your wisdom. I am going to send this anonymously, but if you can please let me know when you respond.

Thank you, Beccie

Vitamins & Health
by: Grandma

You're Welcome Beccie, I'm so glad to be here for you.

I wanted to say more the last time I responded but space is limited when I try to answer a question.

I'd really like to see you start taking vitamins B-12(25mcg) and D-3 (2000 IU). The vitamin B-12 will really help your nerves and energy level. The vitamin D-3 will help build your immune system, your bones and will help promote colon health. I'm not big on multivitamins because they give you too much of one kind of vitamin and not enough of another. But these two vitamins will really help you with your chronic fatigue and anxiety. Of course once you get the IBS under control that is going to make a huge difference in your quality of life.

Another thing I want to go over again, simply because it's so important is what I said about dairy. Completely stay away from milk. You can have cheese as long as it's aged and a little yogurt is OK, you can also enjoy some pizza once in awhile but PLEASE get away from dairy products as much as you can. The only thing cows milk is good for is a calf. And that's because it isn't processed yet. When you have time please go to;
www.nomilk.com

Admit it or not, I believe stress is what brings IBs on. You've been under a lot of stress with working in your garden and remodeling your home. Even though you love getting company it's stressful. Find time everyday to enjoy your home, go to your garden for alone time and try to meditate. Take deep breaths and tell yourself it's time to relax and enjoy this wonderful journey your on.

OK, Grandma's done lecturing...:)

Keep in touch and for heavens sake, take care of yourself.

Love
Grandma

PS I think we solved the skunk problem lastnight, not sure yet. We soaked some old clothing with household ammonia and spread them around the yard (it's suppose to chase skunks, they hate ammonia). They didn't spray the house again lastnight so I'm hoping it chased them off. Of course my yard looks pretty crappy with a bunch of old clothes laying all over it...LOL but it's still better than smelling skunk spray all through my house. Now to find a good home for these kittens...I've already fallen in love with all of them.

Thank you Grandma,
I will do as you suggest and let you know how things are moving. (t-hee) I'm sorry about the skunks and grateful that you got the kittens. We got a new product from TV called, WHAT-ODOR. It says it will take care of skunk. Can't swear to that, but it seems to take the smoke and [pet odors out of our home. We're pleased. Thanks again for being there for me. Blessings, Beccie

Irritable Bowel Syndrome Home Remedy
by: Grandma

Hi Beccie,

It's so nice to hear from you again, but I'm awfully sorry you are dealing with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. My best friend (since we were 5 yrs. old) has been dealing with IBS for many years and I know what pain and anxiety it puts her through when she has a flair-up. In my opinion the medical tests and medication causes more anxiety than the disorder. But that's a whole other article for me to write about.

When my friend finally came to me for advice (she's stubborn and a true believer in the medical profession)the advice I gave her has given her so much relief that she rarely has a bout of IBS. The only time she does is when she stops taking what I suggested. Once she's back on the diet she responds quickly.

The first thing I'm going to suggest is to stop taking all dairy products. This may be what is causing the mucus you're experiencing. But I have found that people dealing with IBS most likely have a dairy allergy. You can read about food allergies under the button "Allergy Wisdom".

The second thing I'm going to suggest is to drink a full 8 oz. glass of cranberry juice everyday, even when the symptoms stop. This will put a protective coating on your intestines so that bacteria can't stick to the walls and cause the cycle of IBS.

Next, never allow yourself to go days without several healthy bowl movements each day. As soon as you suspect you are going to be constipated I want you to mix up my power pudding recipe. You only need 3 ingredients, 1 cup of applesauce, 3/4 cup of prune juice, and 1 cup of unprocessed wheat bran. The first day take 3 tablespoons, than 1 tablespoon a day and make sure you drink 1 full glass of water each time after taking this. Believe me, this will gently move your bowels and keep them moving regularly.

Now I'm looking at you with those grandma eyes and saying, "Beccie, do what I'm saying, everyday, because I know in my heart this is going to help you." :)

My holidays were really nice but so busy. Grandpa found 6 kittens and their mama in our basement, (the mama found a broken widow after a terrible rain storm). Then a family of skunks decided to make a home under our back porch. We got skunked really bad two nights ago and my entire house smells like skunk spray. HA! My friends and family tell me I should be writing a weekly article for our newspaper called, "Life with Grandma".

Take care Beccie, you know I always send you my blessings,

Love
Grandma
