Never Use Diet Anything for Children
by: Grandma

No, I wouldn't use diet green tea, I never use artificial sugar. Brew a pot or a cup of green tea and add the lemon and honey recipe to sweeten the tea. I'd use the same recipe for adults except I'd add a shot of rum to the recipe. Or you could use an herbal tea or even black tea.

Another really good natural remedy for children and adults when dealing with a chest infection is a fresh garlic sandwich. Just take some fresh garlic and chop it into tiny pieces spread some butter on a piece of bread and cover with the chopped garlic and munch on it. The fresh garlic is a natural antibiotic.

Don't forget the vaporizer with a dash of sea salt in the water.

Chest Congestion & Sore Throat in Kids
by: Grandma

Hi,

Chest congestion and sore throat in kids can be really frustrating. Especially with all the warnings coming out about the over-the-counter medications, the side effects are so scary.

The first thing to do that is extremely important is to have a vaporizer. Keep it running in their bedroom 24 hours a day, or even if they are in the living room or family room, keep a vaporizer running. Never put that vapo stuff you buy in the drug stores, they just make the congestion worse. Only use sea salt in your vaporizer. Once you fill the vaporizer up with water throw a pinch of sea salt in it. It will help it steam much better and also the sea salt will relax and soothe those bronchial tubes.

My hot toddy recipe is well known through our family. It's kind of a joke when the kids get sick. All you do is bring some honey (several tablespoons)and the juice of several fresh lemons to a boil. Honey isn't medicinal until you boil it. Allow it to cool to room temperature. You can give this to kids by the spoonful as often as they need it. You can also add it to a hot cup of tea. And just let them sip on the tea. If they have severe chest congestion and can't rest, I have always added a few drops of rum or whisky before they went to bed. My kids have always loved sipping on a hot toddy. This will also help them break a sweat once they are under the covers.

Never give this to infants! They can't digest the honey. And never give infants alcohol. Also, never give children peppermint tea! The menthol in the peppermint can have an adverse reaction in children.

For a sore throat I have always boiled a quart of water and added about two tablespoons of sea salt. Then let cool to room temperature. Have them gargle with it several times a day. If the children are too young to gargle just have them swish it in their mouth and spit it out.

And don't forget the chicken soup! Chicken soup really does have natural antibiotics that will help fight that infection. My favorite has always been Mrs. Grass chicken noodle soup.

Stay away from dairy products and orange juice. Give them 7up or Ginger Ale, hot tea with lemon and honey.

Merry Christmas!
