Home Remedies for Canker Sores
by: Grandma

Hello,

I'm sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner I've had a very busy couple of days here at home.

I'm sure your husband is really suffering and I do know that antibiotics and corticorsteroids that medical Dr.'s may perscribe aren't much help when it comes to canker sores.

The first thing I'd suggest is that your husband rinse his mouth with warm sea salt water. You'd be surprised how much effect sea salt has on mouth sores. He could also try sucking on ice chips to relieve the burning and swelling.

A popular herb for canker sores is powdered myrrh, it contains high amounts of tannins which is a highly recommended herb to treat mild inflamation in the mouth and throat. You can buy the capsules in your local health food store and just break the capsule open and dab a small amount directly on each canker sore.

You could also try herbal tea bags. Just make a cup of tea of bearberry, eucalyptus, St.-john's-wort, sage, raspberry, peppermint or licorice. Take the time to drink the tea but use the tea bag to put inside your lip for awhile to relieve the discomfort.
