Homemade Flea Prevention for my 9 yr. old Dachshund

by Howard Picard

After doing some research on flea prevention on the Internet and the fact that I am barely getting by on my social security income I came up with the following ingredients in hopes it will help my little dachshund get rid of her fleas.

I do believe that by using very small dosage of the essence oils I will not be harming my precious "Chocolate" Dachshund.

I boiled a small prickly pear cactus in 1 1/2 cups of distilled water. Removing the prickly pear cactus I strained the 1 cup of this water mixture in a clean measuring cup and added the following: 6 drops of tea tree oil, 6 drops of peppermint oil, 4 tablespoons of Raw apple Cider vinegar. I then stirred the 8 oz. of liquid mix blending the oil and poured this liquid mix in a 8 oz. spray bottle. I just prepared this 1/2 hour ago.

Now, I have not used this on my little girl dog yet. i thought best to send this information to you and ask your expert opinion.
My intentions are to spray this mixture on a cloth to where the cloth is soaking wet and then rub this mixture all over my little princess dog, her belly, her bottom, neck and shoulders. It is my belief that the only potential harmful product i am using is the tea tree oil and why I used so little.
Will this mixture harm my little 13lb dachshund if she happens to lick parts of her body after I apply it. Please advise. Sincerely, Howard Picard hepicard@gmail.com

Homemade Flea Remedy
by: Patricia

Hello Howard,

I'm sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner, I was away for awhile. To be honest, I don't know what help I can be right now, I never heard of this recipe for homemade flea control. I don't know anything about prickly pear cactus. You must have found this remedy on someone else's website. I do believe the essential oils you added are fine and the Apple Cider Vinegar, especially since you used such a small amount. I do have a flea recipe on my website so if this didn't work for you, look for mine, because I know it worked wonders for me and many of my friends.

Please let us know how this recipe worked out for your beautiful Dachshund. The small amount of tea tree oil should be ok for her but never use it on cats.
