Flea Control for Dog

by Judith Gill
(Grand Rapids, MI)

Hi Grandma ... you gave a recipe for flea control:
1 t. cloud nine
25 drops pennyroyal oil
25 drops eucalypsus oil
Can you tell me if this is okay to use on dogs ... you said you used it on your cats and I didn't know if this could be used on both dogs and cats.

If this can be used on dogs, how often should I apply this ... everytime I take her out ... or once per day or once per week???
Also, if I cannot find cloud nine oil, can you recommend a supplier? Thanks very much for your help.

Cloud Nine Changed the name to Herbal Dip
by: Grandma

Hi Judith,

I did some research on the Cloud Nine and found that the company changed the name to Herbal Dip. I also found their website if you still want to order it. Here is their website:
http://www.halopets.com/

I think the price is $14.95 for the bottle but believe me, it lasts a very long time. I know you'll love it and will have piece of mind that your dog will be not only flea free but chemical free too.

Essential Oils for Dogs & Fleas
by: Grandma

Hi Judith,

I am so sorry it took a few days to get back to you. This past Father's Day weekend was a lot more hectic than I expected.

You only need to lightly spray your dog a couple of times a week with this recipe. You can also soak or spray a bandana with the mixture and tie it around your dog's neck. Make sure you also spray where he/she sleeps and even your rugs and furniture, but make sure you test a small spot first to make sure it won't stain.

I realize the Cloud Nine is hard to find. I tried to do some research online to see if I could locate it but no luck. I get mine at a local health food & herbal shop. If you can't find the cloud nine than just add a few drops of cedar oil instead. You'll find that the recipe will make your dog smell minty and fresh.

Another good idea during flea season is to add a few drops of apple cider vinegar to your dogs water. Fleas hate the taste of vinegar. You might also want to add a clove or two of garlic to your dogs food. This will help keep your dog from picking up parasites during the summer season. It will also help flush any parasites your dog may already have. You can't be too careful during the summer when the dog is outside more.
