It may sound crazy (and I certainly don't tell anyone else about it) but my mom told me about the earwax cure for coldsores, and YES! It does work, nearly immediately.
At the first itch, before the cold sore even appears, dab a little earwax on the spot, clears it right up. Works even if you don't catch the onset early, to clear a full-blown cold sore up a lot faster. Gross? Yeah, a bit. But certainly no more gross than walking around with a huge canker on your mouth, and a lot less painful too!
As to the how/why it works, I figure whatever chemical the body creates that makes earwax so icky (if you forget and lick your lips afterward, you'll know - yeck!) must also have some kind of anti-viral property.

This is the first time I ever heard of using ear wax on a cold sore. I really can't tell you why this would work. I know I wouldn't want to lick my lips one I apply the ear wax. :)
Yes, sleeping on the ear that is filled with wax would help to melt that wax out. Sleeping on a warm water bottle and a few drops of olive oil in the ear is good too.
