Babies & Chest Congestion
by: Grandma

Hello Jace,

Welcome to Grandma's Wisdom, I'm so glad you found my website. I hope you'll visit often and take some time to look around.

I'm so glad you didn't use the Vick's Vapo Rub. I don't believe in putting this on babies.

The first thing I'd suggest is to make sure you have a vaporizer running at all times. Just fill with water and a pinch of salt. If you don't have a vaporizer then just fill a pot of water and add a pinch of salt and let it boil on your stove. You need to get the moisture into your baby's lungs to get them cleaned out. Don't hold our baby close to it, just let the room fill with the moisture.

You can also try squeezing a fresh lemon and adding a tablespoon of honey, bring the juice and honey to a boil and let sit until cool. Add this to some tea and put into your baby's bottle. Fennel tea is the best (if you can find it in your country) fennel tea is very gentle for baby's tummy and is also excellent for chest congestion. You can find the recipe for fennel tea if you go to the button on the left that reads "Medicinal Teas" and look for the link for Fennel Tea Recipes. If you can't get fennel tea, green tea or even black tea would be fine. It's hard for me to know what you can get in your country. Just give this mixture to your baby a little at a time. This should relieve the cough and hopefully allow your baby to rest.
