Coke Bottle Dermatitis

by Bill
(Altus Oklahoma USA)

I have a friend who is a little over weight and the dermatitis goes down to her feet, she is almost crippled from it and has been looking for a long time for the best cure...so far she is 77 years old. Right now she is staying off her feet but she is still in a lot of pain. Do you have any ideas for this?

Dermatitis & Home Remedies
by: Grandma

Hello Bill,

I can see that you are really concerned about your friend. I am so sorry it took so long to get back to you. I've had knee surgery and now going through physical therapy and recovery hasn't been as easy as I thought it would be.

First of all I have to admit, I've never heard of Coke Bottle Dermatitis but I do know that dermatitis can be very painful, itchy, and just down right uncomfortable to live with.

Dermatitis is caused by an allergic reaction to things like metal, plastic, certain plants or creams or ointments. So the first thing to try to figure out is what your friend is having a reaction to. This alone would be the most important thing you can do.

You could try applying a mixture of the herb goldenseal with vitamin E and a small amount of honey, mix this together and spread it on the affected area for twenty to thirty minutes and use it three times a day. When you wash it off make sure you use a very mild soap, nothing with deoderant or perfumes in it, especially stay away from any anti-bacterial soaps. I would buy a baby soap, like Baby Magic.

There is an over-the counter product you could try, it's called Eucerin, it contains mineral oil and lanolin. This is known to help skin retain moisture. Another old farm remedy for dermatitis is Bag Balm, a product used to sooth mother cows who are nursing. Sounds crazy but many farmers swear by it. This you would have to buy at a feeding store.

I hope this helps your friend out Bill and again I'm sorry it took so long for me to get back to my responsibilites here.
