Phases or Health Issue
by: Grandma

Hello,

As a sister grandma I'm sure you remember how children go through phases when they refuse to eat. I know all mine did, usually as a toddler, then around 7 and again around their pre-teens. As long as you aren't noticing health issues, like weight loss, nervousness or depression I wouldn't worry too much.

When my children went through this I'd try to prime them with something they really liked, even if it don't seem like a healthy meal to you, it's a way of getting them to eat something. One thing that always seemed to work for me was slicing a banana and pouring some pure maple syrup over it. Who can resist the smell of pure maple syrup? And it has a lot of natural minerals in it, plus the banana provides a lot of vitamins and it's so easy to digest when dealing with an empty stomach.

My youngest son went through a period with no appetite and nervousness, he was 7 years old at the time. I just knew there was something wrong when he was losing weight. So I put him on the Food Elimination Diet and discovered he was allergic to dairy products. We joke about it now because he is over 6 feet tall and weighs about 240 lbs. He claims that diet made him feel like he was starving and now he'll eat anything that don't threaten to eat him first. If you want to read about the Food Elemination Diet just go to the button on the left that read "Allergy Wisdom" and you'll find a link on that page that will take you to the diet.
