Benefits of Aloe Vera

by Oluwatobi Fagbemi
(Nigeria)

Please I would like to know the benefits of Aloe Vera besides it being a laxative. Is it also good for stretch marks. Can olive oil be applied to regular body lotions?

Benefits of Aloe Vera
by: Grandma

Hello Oluwatobi,

It's so nice to meet you. You're the first person to contact me from Nigeria. It always amazes me how the internet connects us all to the world.

Aloe Vera is one of my favorite house plants. It is such an amazing natural remedy for benefiting and soothing the intestinal system. Aloe is also excellent for the skin. It will soothe skin irritations and gives it a healthy glow. I always keep an Aloe plant in my home to soothe burns. Anytime anyone burns themselves I immediately run cold water over it then break off a piece of the Aloe plant and peal it open to cover with the liquid or juice inside. It's also soothing for sunburn, skin scarring and skin rashes. You could try using it on stretch marks. It would have most likely benefited you more during pregnancy while the skin was stretching. But since it does help some scarring it would be worth a try since you don't have to worry about chemicals or side effects.

Olive oil should be applied directly to the skin. I don't imagine it would hurt to use it with body lotion, as long as you put the olive oil on first and let it absorb in first. It's very important to make sure the body lotion you use is free of chemicals, dyes and perfumes. You wouldn't want to use anything on your skin that is harsh or could cause a skin reaction. Always remember, anything that you apply to your skin will be absorbed directly into your blood stream!

Thank you for visiting Grandma's Wisdom, please stop back often,
